Blast 1:  December 25, 2016 - Our response to Obama: Canadians for Balfour 100

As I prepared this message two days ago, President Obama had not yet allowed the abominable and anti-Semitic United Nations to pass their last  anti-Israel motion by having the United States abstain from voting rather than veto the resolution.  His doing so does not make the Israeli “settlements” illegal as the Arab world and their enthusiastic supporter in the White House would have us believe.  It only strips the mask off Obama and makes our task all the more relevant.

And so, I am delighted to share with you the following announcement about a great and now particularly timely initiative related to Israel.

On November 2, 2017, Jews and friends of the Jewish people all over the world will be celebrating the centenary of the Balfour Declaration.  This declaration was a letter written 99 years ago from British Foreign Secretary, Lord Arthur James Balfour, to the worldwide Jewish community announcing the recognition of and support by the British Government for the re-constitution of a Jewish state in the Jewish homeland for the Jewish people.  Though it had no legal standing at the time, this letter became the “birth certificate” of the State of Israel when it was adopted by the League of Nations in 1922 at San Remo.

Under the flag of the Canadian Anti-Semitism Education Foundation, many groups will be supporting Canadians for Balfour 100.  Read more about it below.

The UN Security Council Anti-Israel resolution of December 23, 2016 reinforces the need to educate the public about the Balfour Declaration and its implications.  Now more than ever!

Chanukah Greetings from Canadians For Balfour 100

CANADIANS FOR BALFOUR 100 is a new project under the aegis of The Speakers Action Group (SAG).  It is a coalition of organizations, individuals, and members of the international community that will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.  We plan to dedicate 2017 and the years following to sharing information and to educating our Canadian community about our historical, political, moral and legal obligations to stand by the State of Israel.

As the Festival of Chanukah commemorates the liberation of the land of Israel by the Maccabees from the tyrannical rule of the Greek-speaking Seleucids of ancient Syria – which happened more than two thousand years ago – so in a few short months the Jewish people and their friends will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Balfour Declaration.

On Nov 2, 1917, the Balfour Declaration paved the way for the participation of Jewish soldiers in the liberation of the land of Israel from a Jihad declared by the Ottoman Turks, and 31 years later – in 1948 – the State of Israel was born.

Please go to our new web site www.canadiansforbalfour100.org and read our Mission Statement and our first Press Release.

And stay tuned for more news of our upcoming plans and activities!  Happy Chanukah!

Sincerely,

Goldi Steiner and Irving Weisdorf, Co-chairs
